An official relief fund for Gloucester has now been set up!
There is one part of me that feels ashamed that such a fund needs to be set up. Where is our government's help? Oh they have spent it all on a pointless and unjustified war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Are we going begging to the world? Will India and all the other countries we have helped in the past be having Live Aid and Comic Relief style events to raise funds for us?
There is no easy solution to the hundreds of homeless in areas up North, in the West and now even in the South East that have had homes flooded out. Some insurance companies have bought mobile homes in bulk and are distributing them to policy holders who have somewhere to put them - good idea. Surely though, the government and the insurance companies should be able to get together to sort this out quickly. These flooded homes could be uninhabitable for 9 months, quite possibly jobs could have been lost, but I dont think we should have to go to the world with begging bowls.

You know NG, more and more, I see parallels between your govt. and GWB's government...scary thought, yes?
Your country and mine seems to have many of the same issues--tho' you at least have health care for all (tho' it's far from adequate, I am aware of that) and slightly better social support then we have (housing and other public assistance programmes for the less fortunate), basically, tho', we really do seem to face many of the same issues--if under different circumstances.
Stupidity, greed and meanness know no borders, methinks. Have a good day today.
